The City of Stirling – The City of Choice 
The City of Stirling gained City status in 1971. Prior to this the area was known as the Perth Road Board (1871-1961) and the Shire of Perth (1961-1971).  

The City of Stirling is made up of 7 Wards (similar to seats in State or Federal Parliament) and the Council itself has 14 members elected for terms of four years. 

At present, the City of Stirling has over 200,000 residents; making it the largest local government authority by population in Western Australia.
