Verge Permits are required from 1 August 2009
If you want to use the City’s verge, be it during demolition, building, landscaping, pool installation or any other work, for parking vehicles, storing materials, crossing the verge area with vehicles or locating a bulk bin or anything else you can use the City’s verge at no cost. However, you must apply for a Verge Permit and deposit a refundable bond. There are also one-off inspection fees that cover the cost of any inspections the City carries out to ensure that there is no damage to the verge area.

This applies to anyone carrying out any works from 1 August 2009, whether the work requires a licence or permit or not. This includes work such as (but not limited to) earthworks, fencing, roofing, landscaping, adding a patio pergola or carport, swimming pool or spa, demolition and of course, building a house.

As the applicant you are responsible for informing all other parties, including subcontractors, and suppliers, of the conditions of the Verge Permit. If you use the verge without a Verge Permit or payment of the bond the City may issue an on-the-spot fine or prosecute you.
