Beach Services

Beach Services are committed to maximising the public’s enjoyment of the City’s coastline. The main roles include:

  • The safety and comfort of the beachgoing public - our aim is to provide a safe and attractive environment that people want to visit and enjoy repeatedly. Through preventative life saving measures we strive to keep people from getting into difficulties in the surf, which may ultimately lead to a death. Staff are required to provide first aid to any beachgoers that may require this service.
  • The general enforcement of Local and State Government Laws relating to beaches and bathing - the enforcement of Local and State Government Laws contributes to people’s levels of comfort when visiting the beach. Through this medium we are able to keep complaints and conflicts between users to a minimum.
  • Liaise with Surf Life Saving Clubs and the Surf Life Saving Association - strong links with the City and the Trigg Island and Scarboro Surf Life Saving Clubs have been developed.
  • Facilitate and oversee the staging of various promotions, events and competitions held at the beach front - staff undertake the bookings for all activities on the beach front including filming, photography, wedding ceremonies, competitions, etc. They also oversee the running of authorised events held at the beach and ensure all measures necessary for the smooth conduct of events.
  • To manage all applications for beach hire service licences and beach coaching licences - last summer five beach hire service licences were issued. These included surfboard and sunshade hire, deckchair hire, bike and kite hire, bungy trampoline ride and dog washing service. beach coaching licences were issued to Surfing WA and one individual.
  • To promote and enhance the City’s image to residents and tourists alike.
  • Monitor and report acts of vandalism and maintenance requirements to City infrastructure and initiate repair or clean up as required.
  • Liaise with various commercial, business and community groups within the Coastal precinct and report on current issues and concerns.
