The City recognises that access is the key to independence and is committed to ensuring that everyone living in or visiting the City can access the majority of the facilities and services we provide.  To this end a Committee comprising Council and community representatives meets regularly. This Committee ensures the provision of facilities such as pram ramps at selected street intersections, disabled toilets and adherence to design guidelines in Council buildings.  A modified playground at Clarko Reserve, access to the beach at Mettams Pool and Clarko Reserve, transport by means of two specially fitted buses and improved access to Council buildings are special projects achieved by this Committee.

The City developed its first Disability Services Plan in 1995.  The implementation of this plan has resulted in significant changes such as upgrades to parks and reserves, modifications to our facilities, raising disability awareness and ensuring all officers of the City consider the needs of people with disabilities as part of their daily business. The City of Stirling Access and Inclusion Plan 2006–2010 is now available to download (see 'related information' on the right hand side of this page).

This plan demonstrates the City’s commitment to ensuring everyone living in or visiting the City of Stirling can access the majority of the facilities and services we provide.  Additionally, this plan sets out to encourage all contractors and businesses in the City to understand, and move towards applying, the principles of access and inclusion; making the City of Stirling truly accessible to our community.
