Waste Management Local Law 2010
On Friday 6 August 2010 the Waste Management Local Law 2010 was gazetted.  The purpose of this local law is to regulate the storage, collection and disposal of waste and refuse in the City.  A copy of the Waste Mangement Local Law 2010 is available for downloading.

Disposal of Refuse

240Ltr Single Domestic Bins
Attention to Section 3.4 Use of Receptacles outlines the following:

An owner or occupier of premises must not deposit or permit to be deposited in a receptacle the following:

  •  No more than 70kg of refuse
  •  Hot or burning ashes 
  •  Solvent or paints
  •  Oils or poisons
  •  Acid 
  •  Batteries (car or household)
  •  Sand, bricks, mortar, concrete
  •  Big heavy sharp objects
  •  Asbestos
  •  Motor vehicle parts, tyres
  •  Pathological or cytotoxic waste
  •  Medical waste
  •  Gas cylinders
  •  Fluorescent tubes or CFL's (compact fluorescent lamps)
  •  Electronic equipment

Bins MUST be on the verge by 6.00am on bin day.

The City will be progressively replacing lids on all 240 litre waste recepticles with either a yellow lid that is embossed with this information, or a sticker outlinging the above Local Law.  A copy of this sticker can be viewed here.

Verge Collections
The Waste Management Local Law 2010 outlines Verge Collections, attention to 
Section 3.11 Removal of refuse from premises or receptacles outlines the following:

(1)  A person must not remove any refuse from premises, or the verge associated with premises, unless that person is -

(a) the owner or occupier of the premises;
(b) authorised to do so by the owner or occupier of the premises; or
(c) authorised in writing to do so by the City.

(2) a person must not, without the approval of the City or the owner of a receptacle, remove any refuse from the receptacle or other container provided for the use of the general public in a public place.
